Wharton-TRI Center on the Organization and Management of Addiction Treatment

John Kimberly, Ph.D., Co-Director. John R. Kimberly is the Henry Bower Professor of Entrepreneurial Studies and Professor of Management, Health Care Systems, and Sociology at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He is also Executive Director of Wharton’s Global Alliance with INSEAD. He holds a PhD from Cornell University (1970), along with a MS from Cornell University (1967), and a BA from Yale University (1964). His previous appointments were at Yale University, the University of Illinois, and Cornell University, while his visiting appointments have included Ecole Polytechnique, Paris; University of Paris-Dauphine; and Ecole Superieure en Sciences Economiques et Commerciales (ESSEC), Paris. From 1998-2002 he was also the Novartis Professor of Healthcare Management, INSEAD, and was responsible for launching INSEAD’s Healthcare Management Initiative. Dr. Kimberly has served as organizational consultant to several organizations in the public and private sectors: the Directorate for Science, Technology, and Industry, and the Directorate for Scientific Affairs of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development in Paris, France; the Office of Technology Assessment of the U.S. Congress; the Association of American Medical Colleges; the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation; the MacArthur Foundation; and the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences. His recent professional leadership activities include service on the editorial boards of the British Journal of Management and the American Journal of Medical Quality. In the corporate and public sectors, Dr. Kimberly has served as board member of the following institutions: the Community Financial Bancorp; Wissahickon Hospice; Chestnut Hill HealthCare; The Bach Festival of Philadelphia; the St. Regis Foundation; and the Arto Monaco Historical Society.

Constance Pechura, Ph.D., Executive Director, is an accomplished senior manager with over 25 years experience in basic research, science policy, and philanthropy. Pechura’s training and early research career were focused in behavioral pharmacology and neuroanatomy. Following a post-doctoral position at the National Institute of Neurological Diseases and Stroke, Pechura spent ten years at the Institute of Medicine, National Academies of Science, five of those as Deputy Director or Director of the Board on Neuroscience and Behavioral Health where she directed development and conduct of multiple major policy studies in addiction and mental illness. Prior to joining TRI, she spent eight years at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation where she directed major grant programs targeting depression in primary care, addiction treatment, community health leadership, minority medical faculty development, health policy, and others. At various points during her RWJ tenure, Pechura served as Leader for program staff teams responsible for grant making in addiction prevention and treatment and building human capital. In addition to her position at TRI, Dr. Pechura is an Adjunct Associate Professor of Neuroscience in Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania.
